Ingredients for Homemade Taco Seasoning
- 1 tbsp of chili powder
- 1 tbsp of ground cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Preparing the Creamy Taco Soup
This easy creamy taco soup recipe is made with simple ingredients that you can easily find at your local grocery store. To get started, you will need 2 pounds of ground beef or ground turkey, 1 diced yellow onion, and some garlic cloves. Cook the onion in olive oil in a dutch oven or large soup pot until it’s translucent, then add the ground beef and garlic and cook until the beef is no longer pink.
Once your meat is cooked, add 16 oz of room temp cream cheese and stir until blended.
Next, add the homemade taco seasoning by stirring in chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and pepper. This will give the soup a nice kick of flavor. Then, add in the remaining ingredients; the tomatoes and green chiles, beef stock, and heavy cream. Let the soup simmer over low heat for 3-4 hours or until all the flavors have melded together.
Serving the Creamy Taco Soup
The great thing about this recipe is that it’s low carb and keto-friendly. If you want to add a little bit of extra heat, you can always throw in some hot sauce or jalapenos. You can also use grass-fed ground beef for a healthier option.
Once the soup is ready, serve it up hot and add your favorite toppings. Some great additions include shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, tortilla chips, and sour cream. Cheesy taco soup is always a great option too.
If you’re short on time, you can make this recipe on the stove top. Just cook the onions and garlic, add the taco spice, then add the remaining ingredients and let simmer for about 30 minutes. It’s still just as delicious and perfect for those busy nights.
