    1. Hi Carol! A good rule of thumb is that you’ll get about 1 pound of butter from every quart of heavy cream. It can vary just a bit depending on the cream, but that’s usually right on. Hope you enjoy trying it!

  1. I’m definitely going to try the food processor method! Quick question – how long would homemade butter last in a butter bell? I’m a potter and butter bells are on my list of things I want to make. Putting butter I made myself is great motivation to finally make one!

    1. I’ve had homemade butter last over a week in a butter bell, although it usually doesn’t stick around that long in our house. Ours holds about 4 oz, and we go through it in around two days. I keep the rest in the fridge and just refill the bell as needed.

      I’ve also read that if you change the water regularly, it can last up to 2–3 weeks.
