Quick Homemade Fire Cider Tonic Recipe

Prep Time 25 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 half gallon jar
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 sharp knife

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh horseradish root, grated
  • 1 cup fresh ginger root, grated
  • 1 cup fresh turmeric root, grated
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 oranges, thinly sliced
  • 2 lemons, thinly sliced
  • 10 garlic cloves, minced or chopped
  • 2-3 hot peppers, chopped
  • zest from 1 lemon peel
  • 2 sprigs of dried rosemary leaves
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • raw apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup raw honey or maple syrup for sweetness

Instructions

  • In a clean, large bowl, mix all the fresh and dry ingredients except for the vinegar and honey/maple syrup.
  • carefully transfer this mixture into your prepared glass jar, filling it to about three-quarters full to leave space for the vinegar.
  • Slowly pour raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar over the ingredients until they are completely submerged.
  • Leave about a half-inch of space at the top of the jar.
  • Close the jar tightly with the lid covered with parchment paper.
  • Store your fire cider in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or a cupboard, away from direct sunlight.
  • Shake the jar once a day to mix the ingredients and ensure the vinegar continues to cover them.
  • After 4-6 weeks, your fire cider should be ready.
  • Open the jar and strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl. Press or squeeze the solids to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Transfer the strained fire cider tonic into a clean jar or bottle.
  • Add raw honey or maple syrup to the tonic, starting with a quarter cup and adjusting to taste.
  • For daily immune support, take a small shot (about 1 tablespoon) of fire cider tonic each morning.
  • Store completed mixture in the refrigerator.
