Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent

Equipment

  • large pot
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Heat-resistant half-gallon glass jar
  • Funnel (optional)
  • Airtight lid

Materials

  • 4 cups water boiling
  • 1/2 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1/2 cup washing soda sodium carbonate
  • 1/4 cup baking soda sodium bicarbonate
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salt
  • 20-30 drops essential oil optional
  • Room-temperature water to fill jar

Instructions

  • Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a large pot.
  • Add liquid castile soap, washing soda, baking soda, and Epsom salt to a heat-resistant half-gallon jar.
  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the ingredients in the jar. Stir until fully dissolved.
  • Fill the remaining space in the jar with room-temperature water, stirring gently.
  • Add 20–30 drops of essential oil for scent, if desired, and stir again.
  • Let the mixture cool completely, then seal the jar with an airtight lid. Shake well before each use.

Notes

Use 1/4 to 1/2 cup of detergent per load of laundry.
Shake well before use if ingredients separate.
