Homemade Elderberry Syrup

Equipment

  • 1 small saucepan
  • 1 fine mesh sieve
  • 1 whisk

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup dried elderberries
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tbsp arrowroot powder

Instructions
 

  • Bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil.
  • Add in 1/2 cup of dried elderberries and cinnamon sticks.
  • Turn heat down to a simmer.
  • Allow to simmer for 30-45 minutes.
  • While simmering whisk 2 tbsp of arrowroot powder with 1/2 cup of water.
  • After simmering for 30-45 minutes, use a mesh sieve to remove berries and cinnamon sticks from from water.
  • Add in arrowroot powder mixture and whisk.
  • Once it has cooled below 104 degrees add in 1/2 cup of honey.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks
